Music As Protest: Katyayini and 'A' interpret Kabir, Faiz, Habib Jalib, Pash, Bob Marley, and Junoon

This video is the first in a series of eight (8) video recordings of the performances of artistes at the “Music as Protest” festival that took place on the 2nd of December 2024 at Jawahar Bhavan, New Delhi, India. The event held on a Monday evening had an audience of more than 300 and was organised by Janta Radio. 

This video features Katyayini Pant (vocals and percussion) together with A (vocals and guitar) who musically adapt and interpret the poetry of Kabir, the 15th century mystic who influenced Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims, with compositions by the People’s Theatre Laboratory, Vadodara, Gujarat. They also songs of contemporary poets and singers from the subcontinent and beyond, such as Faiz Ahmed Faiz (1911-84), Habib Jalib (1928-93), Pash (1950-88), Bob Marley (1945-81) and the band, Junoon.

The Janta Radio event was organised by Amartya Ghosh, Trina Shankar, Aditi Sharma and Paranjoy Guha Thakurta. The camerapersons were Trina Shankar, Mohit Kumar and Saurav Somvanshi.
