The 28th Dr Asghar Ali Engineer Memorial Lecture took place on 22 August 2026 at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi. The function was organized by his son Irfan Engineer, director, Centre for Study of Society and Secularism, Mumbai. After the introductory speech by Harsh Mander followed by the keynote lecture by Ramachandra Guha, the Chair of the session Professor Purushottam Agarwal, scholar on Gandhi-ji and Jawaharlal Nehru, spoke on how Gandhi’s views on religion were not shaped just by Hinduism but by Western thought as well.
